The Bodega Son Vich de Superna has seen three of its wines awarded a gold medal in the winter edition of the Berliner Wine Trohpy 2020.

This competition, one of the main international wine competitions, the largest in Germany and a benchmark for quality at an international level, reflects the latest trends in the wine industry worldwide.

The renowned competition has awarded a total of 3 Gold Berliner Wine Trophy 2020 medals to Bodega Son Vich de Superna for its wines Viognier 2018, Expresión 2016 and Esencia 2015.

The award-winning Esencia 2015 is the most elaborate red wine from Son Vich de Superna. This Cabernet Sauvignon comes from viticulture carried out in a plot of land cultivated according to the rhythms of the lunar calendar. Without mechanical treatments, it is fermented, macerated in oak barrels and also aged in French oak vats for 12 months. An ideal wine for the best meats, stews and intensely flavoured cheeses.

The red wine Expresión 2016 is one of the most representative wines of the winery, being elaborated in a natural way with patience and with Ull de Llevre grapes, destemmed without hardly squeezing, fermented and macerated at controlled temperature during a minimum of 20 days in stainless steel tanks, and later aged 4 months in barrels on yeasts. It is, together with the Costers, from the same winery, the only 100% Ull de Llevre (Tempranillo) in Mallorca. It is exquisite when paired with all types of meat, foie gras, cheese, pasta and dark chocolate.

Viognier, the white of Son Vich de Superna, is a single-variety wine from a slope of the Superna valley exposed to the source of the Tramuntana mountain range. The Viognier variety, known as the “grape from hell” due to the difficulty of its cultivation, enjoys a few hours of sunshine and deep soils that allow for a very long ripening process, with high acidity and great aromatic balance. The elaboration is done by maceration of the skins during 3 days to extract the complexity and salinity of the grape. Magnificent to taste with the Mediterranean cuisine, white meats, nuts, rice and fish.

The wines from Son Vich stood out among the 7,590 wines from 34 countries registered in the competition. Only the best, 30 percent of the wines submitted to the competition, evaluated according to OIV rules, were awarded prizes. And of the winners, a much smaller percentage won the coveted gold medal.

The Berliner Wine Trohpy competition is a prestigious wine competition and the largest in the world under the sponsorship of the OIV, a recognised international scientific and technical reference in the world of wine, and is held under the supervision of a notary public who guarantees that all the processes are objective, transparent and neutral.

Berliner Wine Trophy is owned by DSM – Deutsche Wein Marketing GmbH, a German company with more than 25 years of experience in the wine industry, which organizes and hosts some of the most prestigious international fairs and competitions in the sector.

Son Vich de Superna is a Mallorcan wine cellar located in the valley of Superna, a natural area of the Tramuntana Mountains declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2011 and situated between the villages of Esporles and Puigpunyent.
